The Infant Jesus (IJ)  Sisters celebrated the 160th Anniversary of the Founding of the IJ Mission in Singapore in 2014. It is a mission dedicated to the care and needs of children in our community. The tremendous and life-giving impact of the contributions of the IJ Sisters and lay partners since 1854 are felt keenly through the 11 Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ) Schools and the Infant Jesus Sisters Homes and Children’s Centres ( IJ Galilee & IJ Village ).

The IJ Mission is committed to the welfare of all children who come into our care. The principles it upholds are reflected against the background of today’s society, and the need to consider the individual child and all that make up her/his environment so that the child leaves our care a more independent and wholesome person, imbued with integrity and a love for justice and peace.

The IJ Homes and Children’s Centres (IJHCC), established from the very beginning to reach out to the most vulnerable children in need of protection and care, marked a significant new milestone with the opening of the IJ Village in early 2014, a redevelopment of the site of the IJ Convent and Home at 503 Ang Mo Kio Street 13.

This new IJ Village stands testament to the commitment and fervour of IJHCC to be a shelter and home away from home for children and young persons who need a safe and educative environment that respects the dignity and rights of every child. All the facilities and programmes offered at the IJ Village are designed in collaboration with lay partners who have the necessary expertise and experience to build not just the physical structure of the Village, but the social, emotional and spiritual aspects of the human person.

A close and strong partnership with all our 11 CHIJ Schools will ensure IJHCC and the new IJ Village remain steadfast in its mission to nurture and protect children in need.

I am honoured and privileged to be a steward on this invigorating journey to reach out to children and youth in need and provide them with a safe and caring environment in which to grow and learn.

Yours in Christ,
